Baptism

Baptism of the Holy SpiritWe operate an open baptism policy and actively encourage everyone to consider baptism for themselves or for their children. The Church tries to reach out by welcoming those who would like to belong to the Church and experience the joy of belonging somewhere, in a world that is often fragmented and broken. If you would like to read more about what baptism is about visit the Church of England website.

Adult Baptism

A lot of families have complicated histories and it is rare to find a family untouched by the pain of separation or estrangement. We frequently find that adults who were not baptised when they were younger consider being baptised when their own children or those of friends or family come to be baptised. Often at the request to be a “God Parent” where it is a requirement to be baptised (if not baptised you can be a sponsor rather than a God parent). If this applies to you or you have recently started thinking about a faith please make contact so we can help you find what is appropriate for you.

Child Baptism

BaptismOften parents wish their child to be baptised (or christened, same thing just a different word) but feel quite nervous about the implications. Baptism means different things to different people and as we believe we are all on a spiritual journey which may be different to those around us, we try to make the preparation relevant to each family.

Baptism Service

We traditional held baptism services within the normal Sunday morning service, which are an opportunity to welcome the new members to church and also enjoy and experience the wonders of our worship. We have found more and more people asking for  a more private service, especially when partners are reluctantly coming along, or if parents are anxious about young children in the normal service (we are friendly and inviting, but until you get to know us it is understandable why you may be nervous) We have started holding private baptisms on the second Sunday of the month at 11.45.to accommodate peoples wishes. We are unable to operate out sides these times at present.

Cost

Baptism is free as we are welcoming people into the church, and wouldn’t want anyone to be put off through money. But we are a voluntary organisation and need to raise over £50,000 each year to keep going, (yes I know unbelievable isn’t it .if you would like to know n more link to stewardship or friends) so we ask for a voluntary donation to cover the cost of baptism candle, certificates and the extra cost of heating lighting for a private baptism

Suggested donation: Public £ 10 (normal Sunday service)
Private £ 60 (11.45 2nd Sunday of the month)

If you would like to consider baptism for yourself or your child please contact the Rev'd Sarah Oakland - Tel: 01953 714611 - who will be able to assist with times and dates. Please don’t book and venues for a specific date until we have confirmed the church and a minister is available at that time as we are really busy ,with this popular and wonder expression of God’s love
